STORY
When it comes to exposing the truth behind a crime, Jordan Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessy) plays by her own rules. She is a sexy, smart and fearless Boston medical examiner with a checkered career past - and a penchant for going beyond the call of duty to investigate misdeeds. Under the guidance of Dr. Garret Macy (Miguel Ferrer), Jordan gathers clues and solicits the assistance of trusted cop, Detective Woody Hoyt (Jerry O’Connell), in doing the legwork to hunt down the perpetrators of the crimes Jordan’s forensics team investigates. Entering its fifth season as one of NBC’s most successful series, this thrilling drama proves you cannot solve a deadly crime without stirring up big trouble.
SEASON 1 AND 2
Jill Hennessy (NBC’s “Law & Order”) returns to series television starring in this edgy, one-hour drama as Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh, a sexy, brilliant and fearless Boston medical examiner with a checkered career -- and a penchant for going beyond the call of duty to investigate crimes.
After striking out in Los Angeles, the headstrong Jordan returns to her Boston hometown and her former job with the Massachusetts State Coroner’s Office. There she reunites with her ex-cop father, Max (Ken Howard, “The White Shadow”), who’s still haunted by the unsolved murder of his wife, who was Jordan’s mother. This tragic incident shapes Jordan’s empathy with the voiceless victims she encounters as she channels her inner anger towards piecing together complex murder cases that have been hidden, shoved aside or conveniently forgotten.
Jordan gains a measure of support from her erratic boss, Dr. Garret Macy (Miguel Ferrer, “Traffic”) -- who has his own personal issues. Other colleagues helping her on the job are newly arrived and confident Dr. Trey Sanders (newcomer Mahershalalhashbaz Ali), forensic entomologist Dr. Mahesh “Bug” Surivanandamupurimahat (Ravi Kapoor, “Gideon’s Crossing”), ex-British soldier-turned-criminologist and forensics expert Dr. Nigel Townsend (Steve Valentine, “The Muse”) and “intake” liaison and office coordinator Lily Lebowski (stage actress and TV newcomer Kathryn Hahn).
“We envision this sexy whodunnit to be a classy, character-driven drama that appeals to the fascination we all have for crime-solving,” says executive producer-creator Tim Kring. “But what will set it apart is our commitment to greater character development, providing viewers with the opportunity to connect in a more meaningful way with our ensemble cast.”
Kring (NBC’s “Providence”) is the executive producer and creator of this production from Tailwind Productions in association with NBC Studios. Allan Arkush (“Ally McBeal,” “The Practice”) directed the pilot and is the consulting producer.
