RAINBOW SUN FRANCKS

Rainbow Sun Francks is cast as Lieutenant Aiden Ford, an enthusiastic young officer who becomes Major Sheppard’s second-in-command. At age 24, Francks has already amassed an impressive list of accomplishments in the world of acting and music. The son of famed Canadian actor/musician/artist and activist Don Francks, and brother of singer/actress Cree Summer, Rainbow made his acting debut at age four on the children’s series “Sesame Street.”

In his early teens he started his first musical group, “Dynasty,” and was then cast in the western mini-series “Black Fox” starring Christopher Reeve and Tony Todd. Keenly interested in music throughout his life, he played the flute and trombone, wrote and performed, and also pursued the art of ‘turntablism,’ which used the turntable as a musical instrument. At age 17, he was offered the part of Buddy Clark in the television movie “The Planet of Junior Brown” starring Margo Kidder. That film marked the beginning of an ongoing relationship with award winning director Clement Virgo who also cast Francks in “Love Come Down” and “One Heart Broken Into Song” for which Francks received a Gemini Award nomination. Subsequent films include the MTV movie “Love Song,” and the television series “Twice in a Lifetime,” starring Al Waxman.

Simultaneously, Francks reinvented his group of musicians who were now called “The Oddities” and they independently released five records over a period of eight years. Their sixth, entitled “The Scenic Route” was recently released on Battle Axe Records and is their first international release (Francks uses the alias Snydley Whiplash). Additionally he spent two years as a VJ for Much Music in Toronto, writing, producing and hosting various shows before joining the “Stargate Atlantis” team.
